Topic: Sustainable Energy and Energy Security (October 31, 2018, 13:00-16:00)
After the Industrial Revolution, rapid advancements in civilization and technology led to the extensive use of fossil fuels. The environment, upon which humanity depends for survival, began to change. Utilizing low-carbon energy sources is an effective way to mitigate excessive greenhouse effects.
Low-carbon energy includes most renewable energy sources and nuclear energy. However, current renewable energy development faces issues with cost, efficiency, and stability. Before these issues are effectively resolved, by strengthening and supervising nuclear safety and properly managing nuclear waste, we can create a low-carbon home in Taiwan and fulfill our responsibilities as global citizens.
