I. According to statistical data from the Taiwan Centers for Disease Control (CDC), Ministry of Health and Welfare, as of August 29, 2019, there were a total of 75 confirmed cases of indigenous dengue fever nationwide (51 cases in Kaohsiung City, 20 in Tainan City, 1 in Taoyuan City, 1 in Taipei City, and 2 in New Taipei City), and 317 confirmed cases of imported dengue fever. Regarding the international epidemic situation, dengue fever is currently at its peak in Southeast Asian countries neighboring Taiwan, indicating a severe and ongoing dengue fever epidemic.
II. Schools are urged to continue with all dengue fever prevention and control preparations after the start of the semester:
(I) Implement source reduction: Please strengthen campus environmental management and continue to conduct weekly environmental inspections of managed campus areas according to the "Dengue Mosquito Larval Source Self-Inspection Form." Implement the principle of "inspect, pour, brush, clear" to effectively eliminate mosquito breeding sources. In addition, immediate and intensified patrols are required after heavy rain, at hotspots where positive larval sources have been found, and at construction sites within the campus.
(II) Health education and promotion for personnel exchange: During the summer vacation, students traveling abroad, studying abroad, and participating in volunteer exchanges may increase the risk of imported cases. Furthermore, many counties and cities have already experienced indigenous outbreaks. To protect the health of faculty, staff, and students, schools are requested to continue strengthening the promotion of mosquito repellent measures (repellent, wearing light-colored long sleeves and pants) for teachers and students who have traveled to or from areas with dengue fever cases. Conduct 14 days of self-health monitoring (measure body temperature daily). If suspected dengue fever symptoms such as fever, headache, muscle aches, bone pain, or retro-orbital pain occur, please seek medical attention at a contracted clinic for dengue fever NS1 rapid screening and report to the local health station within 24 hours.
III. The campus is a place where nearby community residents engage in daily activities and a high-risk area for dengue fever where crowds gather. Therefore, schools are requested to conduct environmental cleaning within the campus, eliminate breeding sources, and cooperate with local health and environmental units in carrying out various prevention and control measures. After the start of the semester, it is imperative to implement campus environmental risk control to ensure the health and safety of faculty, staff, and students.
