| II. | With the Mid-Autumn Festival holiday approaching, it is anticipated that cases of travelers illegally importing goods will increase. According to statistics from the Bureau of Animal and Plant Health Inspection and Quarantine, Ministry of Agriculture, since the beginning of this year (112), most cases of citizens illegally carrying animal quarantine items have been from travelers returning from mainland China, Hong Kong, Macau, Thailand, Vietnam, Japan, and South Korea. Common illegally imported animal products include ham sausages, sausages, cured sausages, chicken feet, duck necks, braised ducks, duck intestines, beef jerky, and semi-cooked eggs. Illegally imported parcels are mainly from mainland China, Thailand, Japan, Hong Kong, and South Korea. Common illegally imported animal products include ham sausages, pork jerky, fried pork rinds, cured sausages, shredded pork rolls, phoenix rolls, almond cookies, and mooncakes containing pork; beef jerky, beef ready-to-eat meal kits, and other beef products; chicken feet, roasted necks, and fried chicken skin, and other poultry products; as well as pet food containing even-toed ungulate or avian animal ingredients. |
| III. | If pork products are illegally carried into Taiwan from countries (regions) that have experienced African Swine Fever in the last three years and are caught, a fine of NT$200,000 will be imposed for the first offense, and NT$1,000,000 for the second offense. If the individual is not a resident and cannot pay the NT$200,000 fine on the spot, the relevant branch of the Bureau will transfer the case to the National Immigration Agency for refusal of entry. Furthermore, since May 20, 111, for recipients in Taiwan who receive pork products sent via mail from countries (regions) experiencing African Swine Fever, a fine of NT$200,000 will be imposed for the first offense, and NT$1,000,000 for subsequent offenses. |
| IV. | Please assist your school (kindergarten) in publicizing to all faculty, staff, and students not to carry animal and plant quarantine items when entering the country. Please also inform relatives and friends abroad not to mail animal quarantine items such as pork products (e.g., mooncakes with meat) to Taiwan to avoid penalties. |
