| Description: |
| I. | In accordance with the letter from the Department of Secondary and Preschool Education, Ministry of Education, dated September 11, 113 (2024), Ref. No. 1130107082. |
| II. | According to the World Health Organization (WHO) recommendations, getting a flu vaccine is the most effective way to prevent influenza. Furthermore, studies from the US, UK, Japan, and Taiwan show that a high vaccination rate among students is crucial for significantly curbing the spread of influenza. Therefore, campus influenza vaccination is the primary method for students in Taiwan to receive the publicly funded flu vaccine. |
| III. | It has been confirmed that flu vaccines have years of usage experience. The publicly funded flu vaccines procured by Taiwan are all inactivated influenza vaccines. All brands of flu vaccines have undergone registration and inspection by the Food and Drug Administration, Ministry of Health and Welfare, and are considered to have the same efficacy and side effects, posing no safety concerns and providing good protection. Therefore, it is recommended that students eligible for the public vaccination program should receive any flu vaccine that is suitable for their age group according to the package insert. Among the 5 brands of publicly funded flu vaccines available this year (113/2024), Sanofi, GSK, and Adimmune are suitable for children aged 6 months to 3 years. |
| IV. | Recently, the Department has received feedback from local government health bureaus indicating that some school teachers and staff have been selecting specific brands, causing operational difficulties for health authorities. We kindly request your school to inform teachers and students about the information mentioned in point III, and to assist in promoting the importance and safety of flu vaccination. Please actively explain that there are no differences in protective efficacy or incidence of adverse reactions among the various brands, and that there is no need for brand preference; vaccination can be done with peace of mind. |
| V. | Information regarding the recipients and brands of the 113 (2024) publicly funded flu vaccine can be found on the homepage of the Taiwan Centers for Disease Control (CDC) (https://www.cdc.gov.tw/) under "Infectious Diseases and Prevention Topics" / "Introduction to Infectious Diseases" / "Category 4 Statutory Infectious Diseases" / "Severe Influenza Complications" / "Q&A" / "Seasonal Influenza Vaccine" / "Key Messages for Influenza Vaccine" / "Publicly Funded Influenza Vaccination Program." |
