| 1. | Founded in 1978, "Animage" is Japan's first commercial anime magazine and has become an important platform connecting creators and readers. It not only facilitated the meeting of animation masters Isao Takahata and Hayao Miyazaki but was also key to the birth of classic works like "Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind," "Castle in the Sky," and "My Neighbor Totoro," and it first revealed the secrets behind the establishment of Studio Ghibli! Through precious magazine content and creation materials, students will travel back in time to the golden age when animation and magazines shone brightly, exploring the creation process of classic Japanese anime works. This exhibition specially features a new zone for the Taiwan stop, creating a large-scale photo opportunity that is being exhibited globally for the first time, perfectly recreating classic Studio Ghibli animations from "Animage" magazine covers. Whether you love Ghibli or Japanese animation, this exhibition will allow students to understand the creative journey of these classic animations and the craftsmanship dedicated to every detail! |
| 2. | Introduction to Key Exhibition Zones |
| (1) | About "Animage": "Animage" is Japan's first officially published commercial anime magazine, launched by Tokuma Shoten on May 26, 1978. As a pioneer in the anime magazine industry, it not only delves into behind-the-scenes stories and industry news but also features interviews with creators and production teams, along with exclusive preview images that delight fans. Notably, the animated film adaptation of "Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind" became the catalyst for the establishment of Studio Ghibli. Today, "Animage" magazine, after 45 years, remains an important bridge connecting anime works and fans. |
| (2) | Secrets of Studio Ghibli's Founding Revealed: "Animage" magazine has a deep connection to the establishment of Studio Ghibli. In this exhibition, visitors will get a glimpse into how "Animage" facilitated the meeting of animation masters Isao Takahata and Hayao Miyazaki, and how Toshio Suzuki played a crucial behind-the-scenes role in the spectacular success and box office triumph of "Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind." |
| (3) | The Birth of "Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind": In this zone, visitors can discover the story behind the creation of "Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind" and learn how "Animage" magazine gradually brought this work from its manga serialization to the big screen. From creation sketches to film production, this section takes you behind the scenes of this legendary birth. |
| (4) | Beloved Nausicaä: This zone also allows you to get up close with the enduringly popular protagonist of "Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind" – Nausicaä. We are specially exhibiting her iconic attire from the Toxic Jungle, as well as a life-sized Ohmu from the story, immersing you in this world of fantasy and adventure. |
| (5) | The Birth of "Castle in the Sky": This zone transports you back to 1985, the moment Studio Ghibli was founded. After the release of "Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind," the studio launched its first work, "Castle in the Sky." At the time, Toshio Suzuki served as both magazine editor-in-chief and a member of Studio Ghibli, playing a pivotal role in the animation industry. Here, in addition to special feature reports, you will see for the first time a 2-meter long model of the airship designed by Hayao Miyazaki before the release of "Castle in the Sky." This airship, which appeared in a Maxell commercial, has been perfectly preserved for 34 years. |
| (6) | Global First! Large-scale 3D Scenery, Immerse Yourself in the Animated World: Starting with the Catbus passing through an "Animage" magazine cover, this zone allows fans to step directly into animated scenes for photos, as if they are in the world of Ghibli animations, creating precious memories. To perfectly capture the unique atmosphere of popular Ghibli animations, Studio Ghibli has specially sent a professional team to Taiwan to create exclusive photo opportunities exhibited globally for the first time! This includes classic scenes from "My Neighbor Totoro," "Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind," "Castle in the Sky," and "Kiki's Delivery Service." You can even become a magazine cover star – don't miss out! |
| (7) | More Than Just Ghibli, It Fueled the Japanese Anime Boom: In the late 1970s, as the anime craze was in full swing, "Animage" fully supported popular TV anime series like "Mobile Suit Gundam" and "Creamy Mami, the Magic Angel," dedicating extensive special features to them. This exhibition also showcases a large collection of sketches, precious original illustrations, and posters from that era. You can also see miniature realistic scenes of Gundam models, allowing everyone to look back at the history of these works and feel the anime craze that still influences us today! |
| (8) | Exquisite Special Exhibition Limited Merchandise, Not to Be Missed: Exhibition-exclusive merchandise is only available at the souvenir shop within the venue in Taiwan! This includes items themed around "My Neighbor Totoro," "Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind," "Castle in the Sky," and "Kiki's Delivery Service," along with exclusive new products.
