I. The Department of Physics of our school has been entrusted by the Ministry of Education to organize the national team to participate in the 21st Asian Physics Olympiad and the 51st International Physics Olympiad in 2020. The selection criteria are in Attachment 1, and the selection process is in Attachment 2.
II. The preliminary selection examination for the national team is scheduled to be held on November 2, 108 (Saturday) from 1:30 PM to 4:30 PM, with an examination time of 3 hours. The scope of the examination will focus on "Mechanics" (including fluid mechanics) and "Thermodynamics" from high school physics. There will be 11 examination centers nationwide, held simultaneously. The examination venue list for each district is in Attachment 3.
III. Registration must be done online by the student's school. Please log in to the Physics Olympiad official website (http://phy.ntnu.edu.tw/ipho) to access the registration system and upload the student registration form. The registration period is from now until October 20, 108.
IV. Candidates may choose any examination center. Please select the examination center during online registration. Changes to the examination center will not be accepted after the registration deadline on October 20.
V. To apply for an account for the registration system, please fill out the account application form in Attachment 4, or download it online from http://phy.ntnu.edu.tw/ipho (each school can only apply for one account; accounts registered last year can be reused).
VI. The competition poster is in Attachment 5 and will be mailed separately. Please post it.
VII. Starting from October 23, please check the examination numbers and important notes for your school's participating students online at http://phy.ntnu.edu.tw/ipho. If you have any registration questions, please call (02) 7734-6054.
VIII. Approximately 300 students will be selected for the preliminary examination. To balance gender disparity, a small number of single-gender candidates will be admitted with an additional 10% enrollment. For the secondary examination, if the number of admitted students of a single gender is less than 5, an additional 3 students may be admitted.
IX. To encourage participation, schools with 10 or more registered students, an increase of over 10% compared to the previous year, and an attendance rate of 85% will each receive one copy of the first and second volumes of training materials.
X. The 2020 Asian Physics Olympiad will be hosted by Taiwan, with 8 students selected for the main team and 8 for the reserve team, totaling 16 students to represent our country. The 51st International Physics Olympiad will be hosted by Lithuania. Please widely publicize this to inspire students' ambition to participate in international academic competitions.
