1. According to statistics from the Taiwan Centers for Disease Control, Ministry of Health and Welfare, as of August 29, 108 (2019), there were a total of 75 confirmed cases of indigenous dengue fever nationwide (51 cases in Kaohsiung City, 20 cases in Tainan City, 1 case in Taoyuan City, 1 case in Taipei City, and 2 cases in New Taipei City), and 317 confirmed cases of imported dengue fever. Regarding the international epidemic situation, dengue fever is currently at its peak in neighboring Southeast Asian countries, indicating that the dengue fever epidemic remains severe.
2. Schools are urged to continue with all dengue fever prevention and preparedness measures after the start of the semester:
(1) Implement source reduction: Please strengthen campus environmental management and continue to conduct weekly environmental inspections of managed campus areas according to the "Dengue Mosquito Breeding Source Self-Inspection Form." Implement the principles of "inspect, pour, brush, clear" to effectively eliminate mosquito breeding sources. In addition, immediate reinforcement of patrols is especially necessary after heavy rain, at hotspots where positive breeding sources have been found, and at construction sites within the campus.
(2) Health education and promotion for personnel exchange: During the summer vacation, students traveling abroad, studying abroad, and participating in volunteer exchanges may increase the risk of imported cases. Furthermore, many cities and counties have already experienced indigenous outbreaks. To protect the health of faculty, staff, and students, schools are requested to continue to strengthen the promotion of mosquito prevention measures (repellents, wearing light-colored long-sleeved clothing and pants) for teachers and students who have traveled to or from dengue fever-affected areas, and to conduct 14 days of self-health monitoring (daily temperature measurement). If suspected dengue fever symptoms such as fever, headache, muscle aches, bone pain, or retro-orbital pain occur, please seek medical attention at a contracted clinic for dengue fever NS1 rapid screening tests, and report to the local health station within 24 hours.
3. Campuses are daily activity locations for nearby community residents and are also high-risk areas for dengue fever where crowds gather. Therefore, schools are requested to conduct campus environmental cleaning, eliminate breeding sources, and cooperate with local health and environmental units in carrying out various prevention and control measures. After the start of the semester, it is imperative to implement campus environmental risk control to ensure the health and safety of faculty, staff, and students.
